New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will inaugurate 17th-century saint Tukaram Maharaj temple in Dehu, Pune, an official statement said on Monday. A prominent name in the Bhakti development, Tukaram was a warkari saint and writer. He was known for 'abhanga' devotional poetry and community-oriented worship through spiritual songs known as kirtans. He lived in Dehu close to Pune. A Shila Mandir was built after his death, however, it was not officially organised as a temple. It has been remade in stone workmanship with 36 pinnacles, and furthermore conveys a symbol of Sant Tukaram, the statement said.

After this, he will leave for Mumbai and will inaugurate the Jal Bhushan Building and Gallery of Revolutionaries at Raj Bhavan Mumbai during his day-long visit to Maharashtra.

Jal Bhushan has been the official residence of the Governor of Maharashtra since 1885. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by the President of India in August 2019. All the distinctive features of the old building have been preserved in the newly constructed building.

In 2016, Vidyasagar Rao, the then Governor of Maharashtra, found a bunker in the Raj Bhavan. It was earlier used by the British as a secret store of arms and ammunition. The bunker was renovated in 2019. The gallery has been developed as a one of its kind museum to commemorate the contribution of the freedom fighters and revolutionaries of Maharashtra in the bunker. PM Modi will also participate in the 200th-anniversary celebrations of Mumbai Samachar at Bandra Kurla Complex. Mumbai Samachar was started by Fardunjee Marzbanji on 1 July 1822.
